Installation der Backup Client Software

Es gibt zwei unterschiedliche Arten, die Backup Klienten zu installieren.

  1. Wir machen das zentral für Sie. Das hat den Vorteil, dass Sie mit der Installation und dem Update der Software nichts zu tun haben.
    Dazu brauchen wir allerdings eine Kennung die auf dem System administrative Rechte hat.
  2. Sie installieren den Klienten selbst.
    Sie können sich die Software herunterladen und bekommen von uns ein Config-File. Damit können Sie die Backup Client Software auf Ihren Server installieren.
    Bitte bewahren Sie das Config-File für eine eventuelle Neuinstallation sicher auf.

Unter Linux gibt es zwei unterschiedliche Klienten. Einen mit einen Kernelmodul für Filesystem Snapshots und einen ohne.
Die Variante mit Snapshots ist bei der Datenübertragung effektiver und man kann den Server nach einem Totalausfall einfach von einem Image booten und komplett wiederherstellen.

Um ein vollaufen der Partitionen zu verhindern, MUSS man in der /etc/veeam/veeam.ini den Eintrag unter [snapshot]  „# limitFreePercent = 50“ auf einen für das System passenden Wert setzen. Wir empfehlen hier 80%, wenn dann der Snapshot erstellt werden kann. –> „limitFreePercent = 80“

Die Client Software für Linux kann bei Veeam oder vom RRZE heruntergeladen werden.

Installationsanleitung von Veeam:

To install Veeam Agent for Linux and all the required components, do the following:

  1. Upload Veeam Agent setup files on the computer you want to protect.

Keep in mind that you must use Veeam Agent setup files that are generated by Veeam Backup & Replication after the protection group for pre-installed Veeam Agents is created. 

  1. Navigate to the directory where you have saved setup files and install Veeam Agent. This procedure is similar to the installation of the Veeam Agent for Linux in the offline mode. 

Configuration

To configure Veeam Agent for Linux, you must apply connection settings from the configuration file that you obtained when the protection group for pre-installed Veeam Agents was created. To do this, run the following command from the directory where Veeam Agent setup files are located:

veeamconfig mode setVBRsettings --cfg <protection_group_name>.xml

where <protection_group_name> is a name of the protection group for pre-installed Veeam Agents. Alternatively, you can specify the full path to the configuration file passed with the —cfg option.

Consider that the connection between Veeam Backup & Replication and Veeam Agent is not persistent. Veeam Agent synchronizes with Veeam Backup & Replication every 6 hours. After you apply new backup policy settings in the Veeam Backup & Replication console, Veeam Agent will get these settings during the next synchronization.

To synchronize Veeam Agent immediately, run the following command on the Veeam Agent computer:

veeamconfig mode syncnow

Für die Sicherung müssen keine Ports von unseren Backupnetzen 10.27.28.128/25 und 10.27.28.0/25 zum Backupklienten offen sein.

Vom Backupklienten zu unseren Backupnetzen 10.27.28.128/25;10.27.28.0/25 folgende:

TCP: 10006,  2500-3300

Installationsanleitung von Veeam:

To install Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows and all the required components, do the following:

  1. Upload Veeam Agent setup files on the computer you want to protect. Then navigate to the folder where you have saved setup files.

Keep in mind that you must use Veeam Agent setup files that are generated by Veeam Backup & Replication after the protection group for pre-installed Veeam Agents is created. To learn more, see Specifying Packages.

  1. To install the .NET Framework 4.5.2, double-click the NDP452-KB2901907-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU.exe file located in the <path_to_setup_files>/Windows/6.3.2.1205 folder.

If a later version of the .NET Framework is already installed on the computer, you can skip this step.

  1. To install Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows, use one of the following files depending on the architecture of your computer OS:

For 64-bit Windows

  • Double-click the Veeam_B&R_Endpoint_x64.msi file located in the <path_to_setup_files>/Windows/6.3.2.1205/VAW folder

Configuration

To do configure Veeam Agent, execute the following command from the folder where Veeam Agent setup files are located:

"C:\Program Files\Veeam\Endpoint Backup\Veeam.Agent.Configurator.exe" -setVBRsettings /p:"<protection_group_name>.xml"

where <protection_group_name> is a name of the protection group for pre-installed Veeam Agents. Alternatively, you can specify the full path to the configuration file passed with the /p option.

Vom Backupklienten zu unseren Backupnetzen 10.27.28.128/25;10.27.28.0/25 folgende:

TCP: 10001, 10005,  2500-3300, 49152-65535

Die Installation öffnet standardmäßig die nötigen Ports am Klienten.
